Yeah… I’m about done with my trial period of DSL. It was trucking along okay with only a couple of outages but when I really needed to do some heavy lifting it really let me down. REALLY. The numbers don’t lie. I was getting double this when my service was new a few months ago. Didn’t they think I would notice?
I put in my order for Wave Broadband’s Power User cable package earlier today. That’s listed as getting 8Mbps download/768Kbps upload. That’s an average of 25 times faster than the number above show. It’s a few bucks more a month, but it’s going to be worth it for the amount of time we spend online.

Today the house painters arrive and start to work. They say it will take about 3 days to get it all done. We’re going with 3 different colors, and rather than describe them here you’ll just have to wait for pictures, or until you stop by and see it in person.
This weekend Monique and I worked on the house (surprised?). Specifically, we had our kitchen countertops and sink installed on Friday. On Saurday I installed a flat screen TV in the kitchen, we did prep work on the outside of the house for the painters which included cleaning out the side yard that needed a lot of attention. Then on Sunday I installed the shower doors in the master bathroom while Monique did some touch-up painting. Over the course of the weekend we also got some more unpacking done, but with so many home improvement projects going on, it seems like the unpacking is always a lower priority. That’s beginning to catch up with us since we’re starting to need things we can’t find that must still be packed. We still can’t find our Netflix movies!
Just a mention about sports… For the second weekend in a row I’ve enjoyed my teams doing well. The Sharks are into the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and won the first game of the series against the Oilers on Sunday! In F1, Michael Shumacher won his second straight race in as many weekends. I hope both of them can keep it up!

I haven’t found much time to be on my computer lately, which of course means that I haven’t had a chance to upload a lot of photos, or write blog entries. But just to quickly update all of you wonderful people…
Monique and I are unpacking daily. But in the midst of that we’re doing some home improvement projects as well. Currently we have a few “in flight:” bathroom flooring, new backyard block wall, exterior painting, shower door installation, kitchen countertops, curtains sewing/hanging, and much more. Luckily most of these are being handled by professionals, but there are all kinds of other side projects that we have going that we’ll be handling ourselves.
I don’t think our place really feels like home yet. Not due to a lack of changing things from the way they were, but more because we just haven’t lived there long enough for it to seem natural. That will come in time, I’m sure. It’s really saying something though since I really have lived there the bulk of my life for the place to feel foreign at all. I guess that’s a result of us changing the look of it so much. We’re both really excited with how it’s all coming together.
Over the weekend I made my first trip over to the school across the street to play some hoops with Tim. We had to hop the fence because they lock it up on the weekends now, but we got in and managed to play some ball for a couple of hours. It’s really cool to live in Cerritos as an adult. I’m really anxious to get more involved and support the city by going to city functions, getting a library card (the Cerritos library is enormous now!), and maybe even volunteering for a few things.
Tomorrow I’m staying home to work from there while the pool guy comes to check out the spa, the block wall continues work, and the new loveseat for the livingroom is delivered!
I’ll leave you with a few fun facts about Cerritos, and would encourage anyone who wants to find out good stuff to check out the wikipedia, it’s where these facts and more came from…
- Cerritos was incorporated on April 24, 1956 originally as the City of Dairy Valley
- The name “Cerritos” is Spanish for “Little Hills.”
- When the city was renamed Cerritos, other names that were considered were “Los Coyotes” and “Freeway City”
- The ABC in “ABC School Disctrict” stands for “Artesia-Bellflower-Cerritos”
- The last dairy building in Cerritos was demolished in March 1989.
- Cerritos has the first and largest deployment of a wireless-fidelity Internet network in the world.
- The City of Cerritos owns a fleet of federally funded circulators known as the Cerritos On Wheels (or COW). The acronym, “COW,” is a nostalgic tribute to the City’s origins as Dairy Valley. For a fare of 50 cents, the COW provides access to points of interest. Wi-Fi Internet access is also accessible on the buses. The COW vans run on propane fuel, providing an environmentally sound alternative to conventional gasoline.
- Cerritos is the hometown of Joe Popp, and he still lives there today!
