“I mean” is the new Uhmmm…

Congrats to the Astros… it’s been a long time coming for them. I think I’ll be rooting for them, but it’s nice to see two teams that haven’t been there in a long time, or in the Astros’ case, never.

But what is the deal with athletes starting off sentences with the words “I mean.” It’s like they’re correcting themselves before they’ve said anything to correct!

Some interviewing fool was talking with two Astros after the game last night and it went something like this:

Interviewin’ fool: “have you ever seen just a dominating pitching performance in the post Lance Berkman: “I mean he did what we needed him to do…”

Interviewin’ fool: “What does heading to your first World Series mean to you?”
Lance Berkman: “I mean it’s unbelievable. I can’t even describe it…”

Interviewin’ fool: “What’s goin’ through your mind right now?”
Jeff Bagwell: “Well I mean we work so hard for this…”

I have noticed this over the past few years, and not just with athletes, but that’s where it’s most obvious. What the heck is up with that? Why does it bug me so much?

Ehh.

Anyway, I hope Brad’s getting the most out of his team getting to the show! Yeah!

Portillo’s Hot Dogs

I’m in a big ole lunch coma right now, courtesty of Orange County’s newest restaurant. Portillo’s Hot Dogs is an authentic Chicago eatery that has made its way out west. In fact, this Portillo’s is the only one that isn’t in Illinois. Anwyay, the Grand Opening today and a friend at work, who is from Chicago, insisted we go. I’m glad he did!

For those of you that have been to The Hat and had the great pastrami sandwiches, you’ll be right at home at Portillo’s. The food is very hearty and there’s plenty of chicago style food to choose from. I had a chili dog and half of a “Big Beef” sandwich with sweet peppers. Yum! The price is right too… 3 of us ate on $26 and we ordered enough for 5.

It’s located on the North side (ha!) of Buena Park Mall in, you guessed it, Buena Park. There’s a drive-thru as well if you wanna skip the ambiance.

Check out the photos of our lunch on flickr.

Commuting on the 91 can be rough

A friend at work just bought a house out in the Lake Elsinore area. She’s starting to monitor the traffic patterns and found this. YIKES!
