New rules work for me!

At least they worked out great for the Sharks in my first game this year. Last night we went to watch the Sharks play the Ducks in Anaheim in a pre-season game. The crowd was pretty thin, but there were quite a few sharks fans so that make it more fun. The Sharks were down 1-0 until Niko Dimitrakos had a spin-around snap shot sail over Giguere’s shoulder and into the top right corner of the net to tie things up late in the 3rd.
Overtime just had some missed opportunities for the Sharks to win it (Hannan missed an empty net on a 2 on none break) so we actually had to let the shootout decide this one! The Ducks have some pretty good shooters, Selanne, Federov, and some new kid all got stoned by Toskala and Marco Sturm netted the 3rd attempt for the Sharks for the win!
The rules were explained as video clips from EA’s NHL ’06 video game. clever marketing ploy sure, but it really helped explain the rules. In all of the clips it actually showed the Ducks and Sharks playing. Nice touch. I’m sure they’ll get a lot of sales of the game from this, even though the ESPN hockey game is said to be superior this time around in all the reviews I’ve read.
I’M SO GLAD HOCKEY IS BACK!

September 22nd, 2005 at 11:43 pmI was at the game too. (I thought I was going to make you jealous. Ha!) I got home and looked up the scores from around the league…we got gypped. Most everyone else put up scores like 4-3 and 5-4. But for a 1-1 game (before the shootout), that was some entertaining stuff! 70 shots on goal between the two teams, lots of end-to-end action, and not a whole lot of neutral zone clogging (although the Ducks were somewhat guilty of that in the 3rd period).
And the reviews are right…NHL 2K6 is superior. It’s all about On the Fly coaching.
