Madden 06 is Out Today

Yup, that behemoth EA released their new pro football game today. With ESPN stymied by the agreement that EA made with the NFL, there will be no competition for the Madden franchise this year. While I think that’s a real bummer, I am pleasantly surprised to see the folks at EA add so many features to their game after pretty much releasing the same game the last three years. It actually looks pretty promising, and while I know that if ESPN’s game would be much better this year if they were still allowed to use the NFL license, I’m probably gonna be pickin’ this one up.

Ever since a friend who worked there told me how horrible life at EA was, I vowed never to buy an EA game new again. I plan to keep that pledge with this new game too, but I’ll have to find it used or buy it through ebay or something.

So who’s buyin and who’s boycotting? Or who’s waiting for the next generation to get this thing?

I try to get all my games used. If I were to boycott EA, it would be for the work environment issues rather than the exclusive sports deals. But, man… what am I gonna do when Burnout 4 comes out? I need that one right quick!

Yeah, the boycott is more for the crappy way they treat their employees, but the sports thing just adds fuel to the fire.

Just buy Burnout 4 off ebay!

Count me in for the boycott. I’ll admit at first that the boycott was going to be for the whole licensing thing, but then I read that report on how miserable their labor conditions are, which obviously makes the licensing issue small potatoes. Until they stop treating their employees like sub-human species, I won’t patronize their business. Plus, I don’t need to pay $50 for a sports game, especially since it’s been announced that Sega’s NHL 2K6 (a game far superior to EA’s $50 product) is going to retail for $20. So I can pick up that and We Love Katamari for less than the new Madden. Guess where my money is going?

Good on you! Freedom is on the march! We’ll show those commie-pinkos at EA that we’re ‘mericans and we don’ stand for that kinda gruff!

They treated Damien like dirt when he was there and expected him to work all sorts of bizarre hours. They took him from his family and made him miserable for 8 months. I hate them. I hope there stock hits bottom and all those responsibile for the horrid labor conditions get a ragin’ case of herpes.
