Mighty Ducks changing their name?

Sticking with Hockey for a moment, this quick news bite says that there’s a possibility that the Mighty Ducks (of Anaheim) new owner is open to changing the mascot/team name for the 2006 season. Reading the article, it doesn’t seem like he’s dead set on it though. If I were him I’d take a long look at the merchandise sales, just to make sure that brand has lost its appeal, before he goes and changes it. Me? I’m all for a name change. It’ll kinda be like having a new team in town! Any ideas on a new name?

How about “The Mighty Pucks of Anaheim”.

I think it’ll end up being “The Los Angeles Ducks”.

I’m gonna root for the Anaheim Obliterators. Or maybe the name I gave my Fantasy Hockey team last year, “Federov Dead” — oh wait. Sergei is a suck still isn’t he? Man, I gotta study up, it’s been a long time!

Back in the day, I actually said that there would be two things that would need to happen before I would consider rooting for the Ducks:

    1. The team would no longer be tied to Disney.
    2. They would not be named after an Emilio Estevez movie.

Well, if this goes through, and they don’t change their name to something like the Anaheim Freejack, then check and double check. I may have to develop a soft spot for the team, especially since they made the announcement today that tickets this season start at $10.00. The apocolypse is upon us.

How about “The Mighty Dicks of Aneheim” since they suck so bad!
