Mananza Mia

So I’m walking to the train station this morning, and I’m not quite in the mood for coffee. So I stop by Rod’s (liquor store) and browse the juice (give up the fruit). I see blog material written all over this new Apple soda beverage called Monanza Mia, plus it’s got a introductory price of 79 cents. So I get one. …I don’t know if I got a flat one or what, but the thing had no pep. It tasted like apple coke, which is not a good thing. I was hoping it would be like Aspen was about 20 years ago, which was more like a sparkling apple juice soda kinda thing with even more pep, but no dice (or pep). The press release I found, that is over a year old says it’s targeting Southern California Hispanics, of which I am not one, so mybe I’m just not the target? Be on the lookout for Manaza Mia and judge for yourself. Anyone know where I can get some Aspen?

I don’t know where I can get any Aspen soda, but if I find some I’ll let you know. And you tell me as well! We’ll be life-long friends for sure if we can help each other score some Aspen Soda!!!
    God bless,

One more thing. I think it’s probably Manzana (apple) Mia and not Mananza Mia : )

    Dude,

I’m trying to find some Aspen soda myself. I live in Canada and from what I remember it was only available for a brief time in the early 80′s and then it was gone. I don’t know why they pulled that drink off the shelves. It was DA BOMB. I don’t know if it was made by Coke or Pepsi, but let me know if you come across any info.

I was drinking Aspen soda in high school back in the ’70′s. It was the best thing going. I’ve been looking for years for some more but haven’t found it yet. The search continues……

    Sorry, guys -

I, too, have been looking for Aspen Soda for years. I have this really vivid memory of riding in the car and drinking it when I was maybe 5 years old and living in Southern California – it was the best thing I’d ever tasted! I remembered the name (not an easy task for a 5-year-old), just so I could ask for it again. Soon after that we moved away from CA and I could never find it again, though I looked. I was beginning to think I had made the whole thing up (a thought that led me to this website today – to verify that Aspen soda really did exist). I guess I always just hoped I would someday discover it in California! But I just searched for “Aspen soda” on Google and found the following website, which declares (if they are to be believed) that Aspen Soda is no longer being manufactured: http://www.hometownfavorites.com/btwgb.html

The dream is gone, and a little girl’s hopes dashed (okay, so I’m not so little anymore!)…

I’m so glad to know that I’m not crazy. No one else remembers Aspen — it was the best ever. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m forever searching for a caffeine-free soda that makes me happy — I just know Aspen would do it. Does anyone know who made it so we can petition to get it back on the market?? Signed, Jonesing in Denver.

I’m also looking for Aspen! In a previous post by John Y. he said he was drinking Aspen back in the 70′s in high school. I can’t tell you the year but I’m pretty positive it wasn’t the 70′s when it was introduced. I remember ditching school with some friends and finding little bags on every house in the neighborhood near my high school (had to be ’83 or ’84)with a can of this great new soda, Aspen. Being little delinquents we grabbed up as many as we could. Sure wish I’d have hung onto a few of those cans now! ;)

I too remember Aspen soda. It was one of my favorites when I was just a wee lad growing up in the San Fernando Valley in the early ’80s. I am all for starting a campaign to bring Aspen back. Let’s bring it back! Bring it back! Bring it back! Bring it back…

I was just talking, today, about how much I loved Aspen soda when I lived in California in 1979. That was the coolest soda, ever. Karin (9/11/02) said that John Y had to be mistaken about the year, but he wasn’t. I know that it was available in the late 70′s because my dad was stationed at Edwards AFB (1979-1981) and that is where it was introduced to me.

I believe also that Aspen soda was available in the late ’70s, as I remember drinking it in middle school. This is the first site I have seen in searching for Aspen soda. I was beginning to wonder if I wasn’t going crazy, but now this site proves it really did exist. I can’t understand why it isn’t made anymore or why not any beverage maker hasn’t bought the rights and re-introduce it to the market. It was the best soda out there, even better than Coca-Cola to me. If anyone wants to stay in touch with me about Aspen soda, I would sure welcome that! Rob cincinnatikid1964@yahoo.com

I can’t remember how many discussions I’ve been involved in that the question, “Does anybody remember Aspen Soda?”, has gotten so many people thinking back when we were younger. I can almost taste it now. I was 5 years old and on my way to the local swimming pool with my cousins the first time I tasted Aspen. I do remember that Country Time lemonade also came out around the same time but, was nothing compared to Aspen. If there is some type of petition we can start, where do I sign!? P.S. It was the 70′s.

I have not seen Manzana Mia for some time now. Is it no longer available? And what about grape Fanta?

Worse thing that my parents ever did was to introduce me to Aspen soda, cause now I crave it everday even though it is no longer on the market. Crazy isn’t it, they take the fresh crisp taste of Aspen off the market and replace it with the likes of Starbucks. HHmmmmm.

Ahhh, Aspen. I even remember the commercial with the couple frolicing in the snow. I wasn’t even ten years old, and I’m STILL craving this darn soda.

And just as weird, this message is still getting comments a year and half later.

There’s a European apple soda which satiated me at times, but now I can’t even find that.

    I’m calling Pepsi on Monday!
