Xbox 360 is revealed on MTV

As I mentioned before, Microsoft used MTV as the stage to reveal the new version of the Xbox in a 30 minute special hosted by Frodo Baggins. It was a pretty big let down for me. I’m all about finding out the specs of the thing, and they were just showing the look of it, and barely mentioned any details. One thing they said is that it’s got no controller ports. Great, that means wireless controllers. That’s a good thing and a bad thing. It means there’s no cords to get in the way, but it also means that you have to keep fresh batteries on hand. I suppose I have to dig to answer most of my questions.

Want an opinion on the look of it? Uhh.. it didn’t thrill me. Changeable face plates are so Nokia in the 90s. I was glad to see that it could be placed on it’s side so you don’t have to clear a spot for a tower. The white styling (the controllers are white too) is a tip of the hat to Apple and their use of white in their products, I believe. From what I could se of the controllers, they seem to be an improvement. The triggers don’t appear to have as much travel, and there are higher “shoulder buttons” like the PS2′s dual shock controllers. Hopefully these will take the place of the black and white buttons which was always a weird thing.

One thing that was obvious is the games will be gorgeous on this machine. They showed some gameplay from the next Madden and some others. Everything looked incredible. I’m sure more details will become available soon, especially with E3 coming up.
