Forget yellow snow… what does blue ice mean?

Blue Ice!Holy smokes. You gotta love minor league hockey for trying new things. The Rochester Americans of the AHL have a bluish colored ice surface, a dark blue red line, and orange blue lines and face-off circles! It’s kinda weird looking, but I think a great reason to do something like this is for TV viewing. I would think it would cut down on the over-exposure that a lot of hockey broadcasts suffer from. Although teaching the networks how to film hockey would be a better solution, I think, this blue ice is fun to try out.

I’m all about adopting change if it’s for the better, and this article says that this change in hue is to help TV broadcasters fight the glare, but even though I’ve yet to see video of a game on this new surface, I’m not sure it makes that much of a difference.
