Another launch for the day job

Tonight at work we launched a new Disneyland.com site. It’s the 4th revision of the site that I’ve been a part of in my 6 years of being in the being in the internet group. I’m pretty proud of this one, and I think it’s one of our best. Check it out and let me know what you think!

What I like best is the bottom part of the left bar–the 2-3 stars that jut into the color. Very cool–I’d like to figure out how to do something like that on my own sites.

I clicked on “Families with teens” from the “Choose your experience” menu, and it went nowhere. No response from my click (in Safari). But it did respond to Annual Passholder, and the other two options.

Looks like there are some validation problems, which is to be expected on such a huge project, and which are only theoretical problems, and not actual ones. The Disney Store UK has a cool site that validates: http://disneystore-shopping.disney.co.uk/store/Home.aspx
    Looks less complex than disney.com.

Hmm.. I just tried that Families with Teens link and it worked fine for me in Safari. Not sure what the deal is there.

As for validating, I assume you mean W3C? Can’t speak to that as I didn’t code the site, but I do know we decided to ditch compatability with IE 5, which was a big decision (not sure if that has anything to do with it not validating). I do know that it’s pretty cutting edge as far as CSS goes. It’s a table-less site!

That’s cool about CSS. Yes, I was referring to W3C. Like I said, validating code is theoretically a good thing, but practically it is not essential. If the site works for its users, nobody cares if it “validates” or not.

Strange . . . I revisited the site, and now only Annual Passholders works. The 3 “Families with . . .” links do nothing when I click on them in Safari. They all work in Firefox.

I’ll continue to monitor the fan sites and the Guest comments. I haven’t heard of anyone having trouble with those links yet. But it a pattern shows we’ll investigate.
