Need some wood?

Man, I tell ya what. These debates are not only valuable to watch as a voting citizen, but the comedy value is better than anything UPN has to offer. Okay, that’s not sayin much, but the point is that there’s humor to be found here. But not just in the debates themselves, but in the country’s reaction to them.

Not 24 hours after the first debate ended last Thursday night, the web site youforgotpoland.com was born mocking something the president said that debate. This time he came off with another gem after Senator Kerry accused him of disguising himself as a small business by owning a timber company. The President came back with “I own a timber company? That’s news to me!” Then he paused, called upon his funny bone, and came out with “Need some wood?” I almost died laughing!

Youforgotpoland.com has already added one picture illustrating this one (seen here), but it’ll be interesting to see what else pops up.

    I watched only the first 30 minutes, then went home disgusted. I would have liked to see that timber comment. I’d be interested to see how long something like youforgotpoland.com hangs around–how long its creators are willing to keep it up. I mean, if it’s got excellent photos like this one, it SHOULD stay up forever . . . but that’s pie in the sky.

    Heather and I were listening to the debate in the car on the way home from dinner, and when that “Need some wood?” comment came across, we laughed ourselves silly. We also instantly agreed that we would try to sneak that into conversation whenever possible this weekend.

    After having read most of the debate transcript, and read various left and right pundits’ takes on the debate, I wish I had watched the rest of it. Oh well . . . I was in no mood for it at the time. If anybody finds a “Need some wood?” clip online, I’d be much obliged if you’d let me know!

    SNL did a skit on the debates…they did a great job. They even did the wood bit.
