WordPress ain’t quite there yet… for me.

The move is on… to WORDPRESS! Well… not yet. But I’m sure it will be soon enough. A lot of my friends online have made the move to WordPress from MovableType or whatever they were using before, and it’s a good move. But for me WP needs to come of age a little more.

Specifically there are 3 things I’d like to see added/fixed in a not-so-far-off revision of WordPress:

  1. Fix the bug that screws up the posting time when using a 3rd party app to post through the xmlrpc method. This is particularly painful since I use ecto as my publishing tool 90% of the time.
  2. Add file upload capabilities. This is half-implemented, and has been promised before, but it’s not there yet.
  3. Add multiple blogs per installation. Some would say this is a minor detail, but if you host more than 3 blogs it becomes a problem (currently I host 5).

If these three things were fixed, I’d seriously consider moving my blog over to it. And I probably will in time, but these things need to fall into place first.

I have experimented with Monique’s site, and actually have a prototype of it running wordpress. Without completing the final design and just wanting to try a few things, I was pretty pleased with how simple and responsive WP is. Of course, it has limitless potential, but I’ve got limited knowledge in the coding department, and only know enough to get into lots of trouble. I’m anxious for it to get a little more mature so I can learn more about it and adapt it for the sites I run. Until then I think this site will do the trick.

Yeah, that’s a prototype. I want to get my hands on it…while I like the style of the site, I’d like to work on the bar at the top.

Did you try WP 1.3? I think it’s an alpha of some kind. I haven’t tried it, but I’m wondering if it addresses any of the things on your list. I can’t remember where I’ve seen it, but there’s a plug-in or hack that allows for multiple blogs. I didn’t pay attention as I prefer separate installations – no comment throttling between Rich and I like you’ve got across your MT blogs.

Yeah, I’ve seen the hack for multiple blogs, it’s pretty ugly. Knowing that they’ve got it on their to do list makes me wanna wait until it’s done right.

I’ll look into that 1.3 version, I couldn’t find it when I was experimenting with Monique’s site. Alpha’s are kinda scary though.

I need to fix that comment throttling, I just need to take the time to fix it. There’s gotta be a fix, right? ;-)
