Less than 3 days til 2k5!

That’s ESPN’s NFL 2k5 football video game for those not in the know. The game is taking advantage of the fact that you can rip CDs into your Xbox hard drive and then allowing you to assign a specified part of a song to a certain event in the game! For those of you without an Xbox or a gaming system for that matter, I thought this would be a cool exercise as it has a mix tape kinda feel to it.
So let’s come up with some good songs to rip and play when these events happen in the game. I’ve put in a couple that I’ve thought of using to start:
Touchdown – Home: San Diego Super Chargers (CLICK TO LISTEN!)
Made FG/PAT – Home: 3 is a Magic Number by Blind Melon
Sack – Home: Boom by POD (listen on iTunes)
First Down – Home: Another White Dash by Butterfly Boucher (listen on iTunes)
Made 2Pt Conversion – Home: It Takes Two by Donny & Marie Osmond (listen on iTunes)
Interception – Home: One Thing Leads to Another by The Fixx (listen on iTunes)
Punt/Kick Return – Home: Run Like Hell by Pink Floyd (listen on iTunes)
Incomplete on 3rd Down – Away: Loser by Beck
Loss on 3rd Down – Away: Get Back by The Beatles
Miss 2Pt Conversion – Away: Locked Out by Crowded House (listen on iTunes)
Miss FG/PAT – Away: I Missed Again by Phil Collins (listen on iTunes)
End of Quarter: Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione (listen on iTunes)
End of Game: Over by Sugarcult (listen on iTunes)
Stadium Intro: Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood (listen on iTunes)
Two Minute Warning: The Final Countdown by Europe (I’m not sure I can take this once a game!) (listen on iTunes)
If anyone suggests “Oops I did it again” or some other crap, just remember that we’ll be hearing this song every time that event happens, so it’s probably good to save those funny ones for rare events, or not put them in at all.

July 18th, 2004 at 9:41 amI like the theme idea… how about you prepare different themes and that way you can switch it up whenever you want (assuming that it’s pretty easy to map the sounds). You could have a whole set that’s Barry Manilow, or Barry White, or even Barry Williams show tunes. You could have a Power Pop set, a Metal set, a novelty set to make your parents say, “Hee hee hee, what will they think of next?”
I’d probably try a film score set, if I was doing it.

July 18th, 2004 at 9:23 pmFirst of all, curse be to me by getting a Playstation 2 instead of an Xbox. Even as I play this game later this week, I will be weeping everytime the Chargers score a TD knowing that I can’t listen to “San Diego SuperChargers.”
If you really wanna add some fun, may I suggest some NFL Films music. Back in the day when I had Madden for PC, they allowed you to import music files into the main menu, and hearing Sam Spence’s scores really pumped you up (that is until you realized the CPU’s QB would constantly put up stats like 7-40 for 318 yards). I would suggest doing a search under “Sam Spence” or “NFL Films.”
The three you’d probably be most familiar with are “Up She Rises,” “A New Game” (you can hear this in an NFL stadium at least once a week), and “The Raiders” (which they play in Oakland all the time. If you could assign music to specific teams, this is the one to hook up to Oak Town). If NHL 2K5 has this feature, I could totally help you pick out the music for it. I’ve seen enough Red Wings games to know exactly what they play at any given time. Because ESPN loves the Red Wings, almost as much as they love the Blues.
