Pretty slim!

This place is looking pretty skimpy in the posts department. I suppose I’ve been really busy with work and haven’t had much to say. I did see some movies recently that I can comment on for posting sake:

The Last Samurai: Didn’t think I would but I liked it a lot. You should see it. Great story along with some good battle/fight sequences that dances well on the line between truth and fiction.

X-men 2: I enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t expect everyone too. I think they should explain the characters a bit more for those who don’t know who they are. The movie went by fast up until the last few scenes, then it kinda dragged. Worth seeing, especially if you saw and liked the first one.

Secret Window: I really rented this because it had Johnny Depp an John Turturro in it. Two actors I like. It didn’t let me down and was a good movie. It wasn’t a scary movie, but there was plenty of suspense. It’s one that I’d recommend watching the “making of” segments of the DVD since it reveals a lot you may have missed.

I look forward to seeing the Last Samurai.

X2 was way better than the original. I understand about character development but I think what they were assuming was that people either already knew the characters from the comics or the first movie.

I liked Secret Window too. A fun suspenseful flick and not too scary.

They didn’t do that a great job explaining the characters in the first movie either. If I don’t know a thing about the X-men, the first thing I think when I see colossus stand up to bullet fire is “why don’t they just send him in and let him kick everyone’s ass?”

The Phoenix thing is a HUGE insiders only thing which I’m assuming they’ll continue if there are more sequels. Still a fun flick and all, but I would have liked more origin storylines. And where the heck is Angel? We need more flyin guys in the mix.

You think your site is slim? Check out knackered in your Links section! It’s famine time over there.

I dig people with repeating last names, like Turturro.

Definitely insider stuff there. I think they were just nice shout outs for the fans of the comics. The first one had iceman and he became a much bigger role in the second one even if the origins are a bit different. The third one, when it comes out, is supposed to have Beast, Angel, and Gambit, which all had very MINOR roles in X2. Beast aka Hank McCoy was seen on a TV talkshow debate about mutants in his human form and Angel and Gambit’s real names were used in the list Mystique was browsing and stealing from Stryker’s office. And I can’t wait to see what they do with the phoenix storyline.

Arlen, for a great Turturro movie, you should really check out “The Big Lebowski.” An excellent, excellent flick. Insider for Joe in case you haven’t seen it, John Turturro has a line very similar to your famous line from the Die Hard with a Vengeance line you said to the Murdocks, that is if you remember it?

Of course, I have it on DVD.. That movie does rule. One of my favorite Coen bros flicks.
