Anyone else think the Beastie Boys are kinda losin it? I just heard some tribute to 9/11 song they did that sings the praises of New Yorkers. Nice lyrics, but the song stinks. It plays out like some we are the world rap that me or one of the members of AWM could have written. I don’t care for it. Then that other new song they have called Check it Out — I can’t say that’s great either. It’s got this annoying sound that repeats way too often throughout the diddy. Maybe my tastes are changing again?
I also heard a cover by who knows who on 103.1 over the weekend of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” I actually didn’t mind it. It’s reminiscent of the job Alien Ant Farm did on Jacko’s “Smooth Criminal.” Not that it’s better than the original (both version aren’t, I don’t think), but they’re worth a listen. I think I was more impressed by the choice of Queen songs. 4 out of 5 people I asked hadn’t heard the original! What the?

June 24th, 2004 at 8:41 amI’ve thought they were losing it ever since Demetrius Comeaux got on the school bus singing one of their tunes in 1986/87. Haven’t heard anything of theirs since then except for the occasional widely played radio hit. But if they’re trying to keep doing the same thing they did in their early 20s now that they’re in their 40s, it seems natural that they would “slip” a little . . . when you’re 20, you’re 20, but an older dude can only keep up a 20-yr-old act for so long before the cracks start to show.
