On to Round 2!

Round 2!It was a better series than it looked. Tonight the Sharks became the first team to advance to the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by eliminating the St. Louis Blues in the 5th game of their series. The Blues tried to out-tough the Sharks, but they failed, mostly because the Sharks’ speed. They were able to out-skate the Blues and skate to the gaps. The gaps were there for the first two games, and kinda disappeared after that. Then the Sharks beat them with their own brand of toughness.

What I though was great about this series is that the Sharks seemed to play the same game they’ve been playing all year. They didn’t go out of their way to change their approach to each game. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

There’s no telling who they’ll be playing yet. Could be Nashville, Calgary, Dallas, Vancouver, or Colorado. Frankly I’d like to see any of those teams except Dallas. Whoever they meet, it seems they’ll be well prepared as they get some extra rest as a result of winning their series in 5. Go Sharks!

…and Ricci scored! Such a cutie. Here’s to hopin’ they go all the way. We still have that Chardonnay from their last year in the playoffs. I wonder if they did that again?

We’ll have to ask my family to check it out for us.

The Sharks certainly have the team speed to deal with anybody, but I honestly would fear the Avalanche if they meet (which is still a possibility). They looked like the team we all thought they’d be against the Stars.

Right you are, Rich. I think I’d rather see the Canucks if I could choose one. But if they can’t pull it out in Game 7 we’re lookin at the Avs.

I think no matter who it is though, the Sharks have the best goaltending left in the West. Maybe in the league.
