The Back of the Van Show!

Everyone’s got their own show now. Heck Those two annoying people Nick and Jessica even have theirs now. Well, a little over 8 years ago a couple of friends and I created a show for an unsung hero in America. The Back of the Van. Yeah, I don’t know either, but you can check it out here.
This thing was filmed on 1/7/96 in Cerritos across the street from the house I grew up in. I was living there at the time of filming. The Vans belonged to Jason’s mom and Scott’s mom. We did the shoot in very low light (obviously) and with only one camera. It was only a couple of weeks after that when I met Monique for the first time. Seems like a million years ago.
I put this together in a couple of hours last night as a sort of birthday gift to Scott, who celebrated his B-day on Saturday the 10th. (Happy Birthday Scott!) If I would have edited all of this after we shot it would have taken me days, maybe weeks to complete, even as it is, without any major post-production work. All of this just goes to show how far technology has come, and how stupid my friends and I were.

April 13th, 2004 at 8:55 amAWESOME! I totally forgot about that! And the sponsors were hilarious. “Whenever you think Spackle… think Spackle!” This is genius and the brilliant editing is great. I love the delay in our reactions when we’re throwing things out the back. Thanks Joe for video and the Mad-Phat Birthday Props. The rap had me in tears.

April 21st, 2004 at 9:20 amI meant to comment on this a while ago, but I usually don’t get to make comments on your site. See, I visit my friends’ sites in the same order every time. So if Arlen has something that I comment on, then your site won’t allow me to make comments on your stuff. Today, I had no comments for Arlen, so I finally get to comment here.
I didn’t know this existed before, either. It was great and, considering the time period it was shot and knowing what tools you had available at the time (which might have influenced your filming decisions), this is very well done.

April 22nd, 2004 at 11:32 amThat’s right, Jon… we had to be creative since we only had one camera. It came out pretty well, I think. I wonder why you and A didn’t know about it. I’m sure I was planning on editing it all first.. but of course, that didn’t always happen in a timely manner.
