This station is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it!

Yeah, I know, you’ve heard that line before somewhere… geek. But really, it applies. There’s a new radio station to be found on your dial here in SoCal and it’s NOT IN SPANISH! Woohoo! It’s called Indie 103 and it’s on 103.1FM. They’re just starting out so they don’t have DJ’s yet, or a lot of commercials. They’re based in Newport Beach and Santa Monica so the signal is pretty strong all over.

To the music… As you may guess by the name, Indie 103 plays stuff other stations don’t. They seem to be more album oriented where they play bands you know, but not necessarily the song you’ve heard over and over by them. I’ve only been listening for a little over a day, but I’ve heard bands like REM, the Clash, Sex PIstols, The Smiths, Radiohead, XTC, Nirvana, The Pixies, Blink 182, Jet, Prodigy, and more.

There’s a great article from LA Weekly about this new station and why it may not lose steam like other cool stations have done in the LA area. Here’s hoping this one stays around for awhile. For such a huge populace, the airwaves have sucked long enough.

I think I might be taking that strong signal comment back. We can’t get it in our livingroom, and at some points there’s some radio cracklin. The music is still great though!

I checked it out and was slightly disappointed at first, because the first song I heard was Social D’s Ball and Chain, which was probably their biggest hit and to have that song, which I’ve heard thousands of times on other stations, kick off my indie 103 experience kinda let me down. However, I kept it on the station and was pleasantly surprised by most of the songs they played. Kudos to Joe for finding an alternative station that actually plays the other 8-10 songs on the CD. Do ya hear that KROQ? Why won’t you get a clue. There are actually other songs you can play other than the two singles released!!
