Movable Type 2.66

Some of you that have blogs are having trouble with spammers logging comments. I haven’t had this kinda thing happen to me *knock on wood*, but I’m taking every precaution to avoid it.
MovableType just released version 2.66, which includes a stopgap feature to help with comment spam. In 2.66, MovableType now includes a setting that prevents the same IP address from posting comments with the “N” number of seconds set. It also changes the way URLs are embedded in comments (by implementing some redirection), so that spammers don’t enjoy a page rank boost from search engines by posting their URL over and over again.
I’ve also read that MovableType 3.0 will supposedly include a comment registration system that will put an end to automated spamming. But I’m not sure I want a part of that. It’s such a hassle to have to log in to post a quick comment. I guess we’ll see if the spam becomes a problem around here before we tighten the grip on comments.
Those of you that are running off of my MT install (Monique and Olt) have been upgraded to the latest version.
