MXC

Lately I’ve been hooked on a show on Spike TV (formerly TNN) called Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. This show is hilarious, but it’s audience is pretty select, I fear.

MXC is American Gladiators meets Mystery Science Theater meets Let’s Make a Deal meets meets Joe and Jon’s version of Captain Scarlet vs. The Mysterons. That last one may be lost on some, but it’s there because it fits. Trust me. Here’s a snapshot from a review:

Each episode pits two teams against one another. In any given half-hour, viewers can watch fabricated match-ups between civil servants and computer geeks, inventors and former child stars, or meat handlers and cartoon character actors.
These contestants have such elaborate job titles as bubble wrap inflator, plasma donor for flat-screen TVs, instruction complicator for the IRS, inventor of the trucker?s friend ?wine in a sponge,? star of ?My Teacher?s a Good Kisser,? and the public service employee who patented the overused government phrase, ?Not my department, can?t help you.?
Some of the contestants dress in elaborate costumes and masks, while others choose to let their stellar rock- jumping and rope- swinging skills speak for them. One contestant, dressed as a giant peanut, seemed surprised when the huge foam cutout interfered with his game performance.

I’d recommend this show to anyone who enjoys a good laugh at physical comedy paired with some quick witted commentary. You can read the whole review that the above quote was from here.

The entire show is lost on me…not my kind of comedy I guess. I don’t understand why a bunch of people would dress up in big, bulky costumes and then do various tasks like try to walk on slippery rocks in a lake without falling into the water.

I’ll admit that there was one funny moment when the guy dressed up as an olive couldn’t even get to the first rock because his costume restricted his leg movement. I think I laughed out loud.

Sounds like something Chuck Barris, the wonderfully crazy man who brought us the dating Game, Newlywed Game and of course the Gong Show, would have dreamt up. I will have to watch these stupid people in costumes falling into water. Time for another Season Pass on Tivo!

Once again Tivo is great! Why because last night I got home to watch Bob the Builder and Scooby Doo with Jaden and then noticed I had the latest 24 to watch along with Karen’s Sex and the City, a South Park episode, SNL, the Man Show and Inside the Actor’s Studio. Maybe by next year those new Tivos with the 300 Gig hard drives and built in DVD Burner will come down in price!

I finally saw this show on New Year’s Eve. This show does rule. In fact, “Captain Scarlet” was the first thing that popped into my head when I watched it (does that make me cool or something?).

One thing’s for certain, though. This is a guy’s show. On New Year’s Eve, all the men gathered around the TV and were glued to the set, and all the women sat around the dining room table out of the TV’s view, therefore contributing much more to society than we were.

Guy’s show? Nuh uh. My whole family at least likes it – and the tally is 4 girls and 1 guy. I love it more than my dad does. Bring on Season 2!

i love this show. My favorites are when they go on the bridge and have balls shot at them and when they go up a hill and have boulders rolled at them

this is not only for men–it is the best thing on TV. as television gold, we cannot wait until it has a schedule more accessible to the working student. bring on primetime spike thursdays! and by the way, the serious lack of safety precautions is the best part of the whole show.

My son and I are really hooked on this show! If I had thought “I Love Lucy” was funny, well, I’m going into hysterics over this show! The commentary really kicks off the hi-jinks of the goofy participants!! I in no way think it’s funny if someone gets hurt unintentionally, but the people in this show never seem to get hurt no matter how messed up they appear! WE LOVE IT! 5 Stars!!!

How can anyone keep a straight face while watching this show?
We have the Japanese to thank for this! Without their wacked-out
popular culture we would not have such great source material,
I would watch this show even without the commentary! I hope they release it on DVD, I’d spend my lifesavings on it.

MXC is very nearly the funniest show on TV for me right now. The only thing that even comes close is Oblivious (oddly another SpikeTV show). It’s been a good while since a TV show has made me laugh out loud so often. I think it’s kinda like Kung Pow with an extreme sports twist. Bring on the DVD’s!
