The Boys of Summer

Boring! Baseball is a pretty boring sport. It’s gotta be one big game to get me to watch it on TV. I’ll go to a few games a year, but then it’s all about the company. If you go to a game, you’re gonna go there to have fun with who you’re with, the game is just a bonus, and something to talk about. Some people love to watch it, and I at least consider myself a fan. But that’s not what this entry is all about. No sir. It’s about what I heard on the radio on my way home from work today.

I was listening to some sports radio like I do sometimes and the sports update thing came on where they give the current scores of games in different sports. They get to baseball and they say that some guy has hit a home run. Enough said, right? No way. They replay the part of the radio broadcast of the announcer saying “it’s a long fly ball…” blah blah blah “…and it’s gone!” What the heck is that? A home run is a home run is a home run. This replay has slightly more value on TV since you can at least see if some chucklehead out in the cheap seats breaks his neck trying to dive to catch the thing, but on RADIO!? I don’t get it.

Okay maybe I was in a little bit of a “don’t waste my time, Mr. sports announcer guy” mood because I was parked on the 5 freeway. But the idea to post this stuck with me for at least 6 hours, so then again maybe I’m on to something?

    I hear ya guy. Baseball is a VERY S L O W sport.

I do like to go to a game now and again just for the beer and hot dogs though. Unless there is a “luxury box” available, then its for the hype of being up there instead of the cheap seats.

You know what makes baseball fun? Starting fights in the bleachers! And you know what makes baseball addictive as crack? Gambling heavily in a fantasy baseball league! Yay!
