The Fires and Us

wildfire!Just a note for all of you folks that aren’t located in Southern California and are concerned about us. We’re not in any immediate danger at all. The closest fire to us is roughly 40 miles away.

The only thing affecting us is that there is a steady flow of fine ash in the air and traffic is absolutely horrible. But that’s a small inconvenience compared to others who are less fortunate in this mess.

There’s some amazing sights to come out of this ordeal, on TV I saw what some news guy called a “firenado” (proving all the good names were taken, I guess?) that was a twister filled with fire, and these insane reporters were nearly picked up by the thing. Morons. RUN! Then there’s the image that I have a thumbnail of here, it’ a satellite image taken on Tuesday that shows the plumes of smoke coming off of each wildfire. You can click the thumbnail to make it bigger, or to get more explanation about what’s in this picture, see this PDF.

After looking a bit closer at this PDF, I think I figured out who’s in charge of the nomenclature for this whole thing… it’s Buckwheat!OTAYfire

The weather man says that cooler temps are on the way and that can go a long way in helping extinguish the fires. Here’s hoping this all ends soon.

Just have to say that “firenado” is the worst lexical bastard I’ve seen in a long time. And phat beats to Joe for using “nomenclature”! I remember thinking Mr. Baas was a dork for saying that, but now I love the word. Turns out he was a dork who was using a cool word.
