New Hard Drive

For two reasons… One: I need a bit more space to do some upcoming projects, and Two: today when I got home from work I found a box that I had left outside from some work we were doing in the garage over the weekend. I was meaning to bring it up to the office and stick it on one of our snazzy new shelves, but I didn’t. I left it there. Today it rained. So inside the box was a bunch of computer software and, more importantly, audio and video tapes! DAMN! I lucked out and the box was shut, but things did get a little damp. So I’ll be utilizing the good ole DVD burner to back up a lot of that stuff so I won’t have to worry so much about storage.
I guess a third reason would be the great deal they have on a drive right now at Fry’s. It’s a 200GB (186GB formatted — DOH!) drive for about $150 after a couple of hefty mail-in rebates. I couldn’t wait to see how the mac handles an upgrade. I got it home and popped open the powermac (euphemism? you choose!). I opened the box to the hard drive and sifted past the addendum explaining how to get Windows to work with such a large drive, as well as skipped past the floppy disks that came with it (what the hell are those?). Installation took about 5 minutes. All of the cables were already in the mac, and the modularity of the drive bays made it a literal snap to put in. So I closed up the thing and booted up, partitioned the drive and blammo! I’m done.
