It was good enough for Adam…

I just may buy a mac. That might surprise a lot of you, but I have been stockpiling reasons and there are quite a few that lean towards the mac, not all of which I’ll go into here.

I was planning (like I do once every 2 years or so) on upgrading my PC, and I thought about what I want in this upgrade. The hardware that really stuck out was a DVD-R drive, and possibly an upgrade to my video capture card(s). I didn’t even consider macs at first, but I figured I would look to see how much turnkey video editing systems go for these days. In that search I came upon a site that sold both MAC and PC turnkey systems. That got me wondering what software Macs use for editing. So I started researching Final Cut Pro 3. Everything I read and saw was pretty amazing. That got me interested enough to go look at how much macs were going for. Well, they ain’t as cheap as PCs, it turns out. I needed more convincing (besides the 4 or 5 guys I know that are “mac guys” that are always slamming PCs for a number of reasons), so I visited an Apple store that’s close by. I’m glad I did. That place was not only the cleanest store I’ve ever been in, but the folks who worked there were nice and laid back, leaving me to mess with the mac as much as I liked. After a couple of hours pressing buttons and asking questions, I was really starting to see the appeal. So I came home and read more online, I watched videos and read user opinions. I even watched Steve Jobs’ keynote speech at MacWorld this morning!

So it looks like I might be headed for another platform.

The last time I spent any amount of time on an Apple computer was in Mrs. Hogan’s class in my senior year of High school. I spent the majority of that time playing loderunner, raster blaster, and spy hunter with Arlen. We sat in the back and were content with the green monochrome screens while Tom was always up on the one Apple IIe with a COLOR monitor. Oh man, that was a long time ago.

But you could reboot the color monitor machine with a ball-point pen! I’ve been stabbing around at my iBook with various writing implements for 3 weeks, and it refuses to reboot that way.
